Becoming

Although I am loath to discuss spirituality extensively here, I am finding that the poems which I am writing have a particular bent at the moment. My second April poem-a-day follows.

Becoming

I surrender to this becoming
All that I was, I still shall be
This, and much more.

Growth, a shedding of old identities
The person I used to be, the stories that were currency
I hold them close, but they chain me no longer.

Just as much as we are created beings
We create ourselves anew
With every moment, with every choice
Every time we say ‘I won’t let this define me.’

So it is – pain will not be who I am
I bow to its important work
Yet resist allowing it to claim me
For once, I am certain

I will be more.

Sunday Thought

SundayThought

Whilst meandering through Twitter yesterday, this popped up in my feed:

At times, my creative journey has felt more like an odyssey, so I know exactly what Patchett is getting at. As I continue to work towards a state of being able to make peace with myself and the events that have shaped me into the person I am, I learn more and more about how I can work towards that ultimate goal of self-forgiveness.

Just a short post today – hopefully next week’s Sunday Thought will be a little more substantial. Thanks to Leigh at Headspace Perspective for the inspiration.

What’s been the hardest part of your creative journey? How are you working towards overcoming it? Let’s talk in the comments.
