I’m taking a break from the introspective pieces, for today at least, to reflect on world events. I was, and am, deeply affected by the passing of the great Merle Haggard. As a country music fan, and a musician, I have deep respect for him. This piece has no title.
Somewhere out in Heaven tonight
There’s an outlaw with a guitar
Telling us it’ll be alright
‘Cause he’s not gone too far
He sang the stories of all our lives
Broken dreams and aching hearts
But right behind those swingin’ doors
Is where the party starts
So raise a can, or a glass
White Lightning toasts to all
Though his song is ended
Muskogee’s King shall never fall.
